I’m tired…

but I have to be at NIE tomorrow morning at 8.45am and I’ll be ending the day at Ngee Ann Poly at 6pm (if I’m fortunate).

Sometimes I wished I stayed in the west……

I’m so not a workaholic…

But somehow I’ve just spent my entire Saturday morning, afternoon and evening (and most likely night) doing work.

And the best part is…

I’m still not done.

*bleah*

I thought we were supposed to be having a 5 day work week!

Butterflies in my tummy…

I’ve actually been having them fluttering around relentlessly in my little tummy ever since I found out I got the job.

Strange eh.

But the truth is, I never expected to get the job and given the very lengthly job description and duties, of which many I have never had experience doing, coupled the words of one of the interviewers saying “stress includes having to change the entire background colour of the banner for the next morning’s event”, make for the perfect concoction of jittery nerves and anxious thoughts.

Will I be able to meet their high standards?
Will I be able to do well the tasks I’ve been assigned to?
Will I be able to work well with my colleagues?

Sigh. My usual worry-wot self is appearing in full-force and I have a bad feeling it’ll be causing a less than restful sleep tonight and will last right up till I finally step foot into my new office at Marine Parade. That said, I still have to go down to the main office at Bras Basah first, to finish up all the necessary and final HR procedures and then make my way down to Marine Parade. By then I’d be grateful just to have made my wobbly legs take me all the way to my final destination (pun not intended…).

Yet with all this worrying, it got thinking.

When I’m afraid and anxious, the first person I turn to is God in prayer. Whether with my eyes closed or silently in my heart, its a natural reaction that always bring peace and calmness at the very moment I need it. I’m not saying it’s an immediate or sudden disappearance of all nervousness, but rather, the peace really does come at the right time, God’s time. Like how I started off the interview babbling like an idiot but slowly gained composure and spoke with confidence. Same goes for exams where I tend to scribble strange introductions, but manage to churn out decent and somewhatttttt intelligent paragraphs and finish my essay on time!

So then, how about those who don’t know the Lord Jesus as their personal Saviour? Who do they turn to?

Their close friends, a spouse, boyfriend, girlfriend, parents… sure these people are vital in giving support and advice, but they do not know the future unlike God. He who has already gone before us, knows exactly what is going to happen and only has our best interests in mind is the only one we can put our wholehearted trust in.

Tomorrow will be exactly the same as any other anxious situations I’ve had to go through. God knows that though my heart is frightful and fast-thumping, I still take every event as a chance to learn to trust in Him more and more. He allows me to go through each and every circumstance knowing that it reminds me of how silly I am to worry so much when honestly, it turns out ok. And even when it doesn’t, God still allows me to see the good in it.

It is no wonder then that my favourite verse and promise from God’s word is Romans 8:28.

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”

Further down in verse 31, it says “If God is for us, who can be against us?” How much more of a reassurance do you need!

If I’m not to exhausted or overwhelmed from work, I promise to write about my first day, if not week, at my new job. Though there’s no way I can know or predict the details, I can safely say that everything will turn out alright because I know God was there with me each step of the way!

I’m casting my cares aside
I’m leaving my past behind
I’m setting my heart and mind on You, Jesus

I’m reaching my hand to Yours
Believing there’s so much more
Knowing that all You have in store for me is good, is good!

Today is the day, you have made
I will rejoice and be glad in it
Today is the day, you have made
I will rejoice and be glad in it

And I won’t worry about tomorrow
I’m trusting in what You say
Today is the day!

It’s just emotions…

After sending off JY to the airport 4 times, being apart from him for 5 semesters and perservering through a long distance relationship for 2 and a half years, you’d think  it would be a piece of cake seeing him off again as he travels to Spain for a mere 2 and a half weeks.

Strangely, but perhaps not that surprisingly, it isn’t any easier.

Granted my days to countdown (as some of you might have noticed in my msn personal message) are a whole lot lesser, it no doubt is not that long a daunting wait for him to touchdown on home ground again.

But nonetheless, the emotions and feelings are the same.

I guess it will be hard, no matter how long or how far away, because it’s the person you’re missing, regardless of the time factor.

What makes it even harder is that my best friend, confidant, encourager and giver of assuring hugs is leaving poor lil me behind.

But hey, at least I’ll be getting my long-awaited (after 2 years of saving very very very hard) bag and namecard holder! (of both which details I shall at present withhold…)

And so, with a heavy heart (so dramatic…), I shall trudge through the week, start my new job on Monday (oh hoorah….) and pray the next 17 days whizz past like the pesky mini-hornets that have been invading my house these past few rainy days!

Update on my previous post:

If anyone guessed, I was actually talking about HDB balloting. My and JY put in our application for the April 2009 Half Yearly Sale sometime back and the results came out on Wednesday.

Unfortunately, our wonderful queue number is 7053 out of 10,000 over applicants and about 483 units in total.

Considering there is only ONE particular unit we like, the chances of us getting it is close to zilch.

Tsk tsk tsk.

It’s time to start thinking of Plan B!

Crossing my fingers…

and toes too for good measure!

Can’t wait for tomorrow 2pm to know the results.

So exciting!

If we get it, I’ll let you know what in the world Kat is so gleefully gushing about.

If not, then you’re just going to have to be kept in the dark and sulk along with me!

heh.

After the torch has been put out…

I used to be an avid fan of the reality series Survivor and I often wondered what actually happens after they get voted off, especially if they’re part of the jury and have to come back shortly after.

Well, I finally got my answer. In the form of a video.

Closet K-Pop Fan

It’s hard not to be a fan when these korean pop stars are full of slick dance moves, are blessed in the area of looks (or some would argue, have extremely good plastic surgeons) and oh yes, churn out (formulated pop) songs which are catchy, fun and makes you feel good.

My current fav?

The one I just saw on MTV!

A Nifty Gadget for a Cooking Foodie

I adore browsing through food and recipe blogs and have bookmarked a gazillion, of which I probably will never find the time to actually try out all of the places and recipes. But it always feels good to know they’re there, safely and neatly put in a bookmark folder and categorized in case I ever suddenly have the urge, or extra cash, to re-create someone else’s edible masterpiece in my own kitchen.

Well, I have tried some out (including the now infamous brownie that I made for Jim’s birthday cake last year but have never ever found the exact recipe till today) and one big problem is getting the recipe from the screen of my laptop into the kitchen.

Strange problem? I’m sure it happens to many of us budding internet cooks and bakers.

For me, because I really try not to waste printer ink/paper and in my small bid to save the world, I tend to copy out the recipes into pieces of paper, and more often than not, scrap paper. Not only is it small, the hastility scribbled handwriting (due to impatient excitment to get cooking) makes it difficult to decipher, especially when one is juggling a measuring cup of flour in one hand, closing the fridge door with the other and trying to read what is the correct temperature to preheat the oven for.

So…you can imagine my excitment when I found this really useful kitchen tool from my favourite all-in-one browsing foodblog tastespotting.com.

Behold the Demy Kitchen Safe Touchscreen Recipe Reader!

New from Amazon (in fact, so new “This item has not yet been released.
You may pre-order it now and we will deliver it to you when it arrives.”) this nifty thing features a comfortable 7-inch sized touchscreen which is splash-resistant and a sturdy plastic exterior which can be cleaned with a damp cloth. It also comes pre-loaded with 250 so you can whisk it off (pun intended) to the kitchen and start straight-away. Or, simply plug it to your PC or laptop via a USB cable to upload all your bookmarked and saved recipes.  This little high-tech kitchen-helper stores up to 2500 recipes so you’ll have something new to make everyday for the next 7 years!

Sadly, like most other high-end counter-top appliances, this one too comes with a price. Retailing for USD$299.99 (about SGD$454.88), this price doesn’t even include shipping all the way to Singapore. With this same amount of money, I probably could buy a good set of knives and pots and pans – things I’d probably use more often!

But of course, if anyone would so kindly want to give this to me as a house-warming gift (you have about 2 years to save!), I’ll be more than happy to receive with a big fat smile and invite you for dinner!

Anyone interested?

I’m not exactly sure how worth it this deal is but if anyone is interested, we could collate the orders, do the math, then decide if its worth ordering.

So do let me know!

Saving the world…One bag at a time!

(pic credit to coquette)

I suppose, just as the celebrities have been wearing tshirts with the slogan “Green is the new black”, being environmentally conscious is increasingly becoming popular and tres chic.

I’ve blogged about the first Anya Hindmarch enviro-bag (way before the whole shebang and hoo-haa and not forgetting all the fakes which exploded and infiltrated the pasar malams) and then about my lovely Cole Haan market bag, and most recently the really cute ones by Marc Jacobs.

Today, here’s another one (or a few, its really a series) by our dear Anya Hindmarch who started the entire craze. The whole collection of 6 (as shown above) is the latest and, in my humble and not particularly fashionable opinion, is a lot prettier than the one that proudly proclaimed it ain’t a plastic bag.

The clean  design of the off-white canvas bag matched with sturdy leather handles embellished with pale gold hardware and the enduringly simple printed graphics in front makes it a timeless and practical bag for everything from your NTUC groceries to household items from Ikea.

But after all that praise and raving about the bag, one thing that really annoys me is the price. Retailing at £55 on the website, plus £10 for delivery, the final bill comes up to about a hefty SGD$145. However, given that fact that I paid about $109 for my bag from Cole Haan, perhaps I shouldn’t be surprised at the digits on the price-tag.

Oh well. Looks like my groceries won’t be having the privillege of riding home in a luxury bag anytime soon!
